Leaders and victims…

The U.S. Army has, historically, been our leading producer of Presidents. Recently that’s not been the case. Why, you ask?

West Point didn’t slowly become less relevant. West Point didn’t slowly stop producing leaders. West Point didn’t lighten up. West Point didn’t lose their way. West Point still trains soilders and build leaders. Their leadership mantra is simple; Be-Know-Do. Be a person of character. Know your stuff; build competence. Do what needs to be done. BTL language; Build your CORE. Model the way. Build your commitment to PA. Nothing fancy here. REAL. HARD. WORK.

The reason we won’t be getting more Presidents from West Point is the same reason BTL will never be mainstream. America cares more the political correctness of our leaders than the character. America cares more about the charisma of our leaders than the competence. And, America cares more about the leaders willingness to comfort and coddle us than their ability to do what needs to be done. America has bought the freedom pill. The problem, however, is we’re choking on the much larger responsibility one. Funny, huh.

You are being led by exactly the leader you deserve. As a leader you have the team you deserve. You will know you’re a leader when you are taking more responsibility for both. Leaders get it. Victims, bitch about it.

We have the elected officials we deserve…

  1. Hey, don’t forget the Navy! After Ike, all the Presidents who served on active duty did so in the Navy: Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon, Ford, Carter, Bush (41).
