Choose wisely…

Today, in practice 50 I was reminded of the power of our choices. I mean, really reminded.

As we approached hour three I asked City Limits to surround himself with Tyler and Distracted. I asked the three to plank together in front of the team of 20. I gave City Limits three minutes to recover from his 2 minutes of pain. Next I surrounded him with Churp and Daryl. Together, these three planked for four more until Austin hit his limit.

I asked the team of twenty to write about what they learned, what they thought I wanted them to learn and why. They wrote. Their learning was really cool. And, their learning wasn’t what I had intended. Funny, huh…

Finally, I told them why I had City Limits plank it out with two very different teams. I hand picked them both and nobody had seemed to notice why. I purposely chose the first team because I thought he could kick their ass. And, I purposely picked Daryl and Churp because I knew they would kick City Limit’s ASS beyond his perceived limit.

Want to become a high performer in any endeavor? I mean, really become a high performer? Choose wisely. Choose wisely how you build yourself. And, choose wisely who surrounds you. You have choices. Your choices have consequences. As you choose the real, hard, work of becoming the orginal you already are, remember, it matters a great deal who is next to you. Many would be strong performers are sidelined because of their “friends.” Choose wisely, my friend.
