Problems are NOT…

Problems are NOT self healing systems. In other words, whatever problem you are facing at the present won’t get better by you ignoring its existence. Far too many leaders “look away” and hope the problem associate will simply get with it. They rationalize their inattention. Years later they transfer a few of these kinda problems to their succesor. This is a leadership fail. And, this is most often a failure of nerve.

Today, step into your anxiety with another. Put your thinking in writing. Write out the problem and make sure you get to the root. Write out the way forward. Once you are clean and clear, rinse the emotion out. Rationally review with your “problem child” and ask them if they agree. Push for performance. Rinse and repeat.

Problems are NOT self healing systems. Everybody in your system knows who the problems are. They’re watching you to see how you will respond. Your looking away further heightens their look in. They really don’t see the problem for very long. Eventually they simply fixate on you and your perceived failure of nerve.

BTL builders don’t spend a lot of time or energy on problems because they deal with ’em early and often. Every leader has plenty of problems on their plate. The good ones clean up their own before they form a crust and they rinse and repeat as a discipline. This gives them the time to focus on the few.

How ’bout you?
