We began practice #2 reading “Ideaing instead of idling…”
We wrote about and then practiced speaking & listening what we learned from Toto’s wisdom in an “ideaing” and “ANDing way.” Everyone could tell it felt good. We were primed for the rest of practice, where these next generation leaders had come prepared to talk about their BIG DREAM for what this team could like in 10 years even 20 after the current generation had passed the baton.
The current heads of the systems practiced leading well for the first 90 minutes asking curious questions. Other team members did the same. And then those who were tired of “ideaing” said we were “idling” because we were not DOING anything.
The irony is we’d called the theme of our session VISION over VISIBILITY.
Do NOT confuse “ideaing” with day-dreaming. Do NOT confuse “ideaing” with “idling.” Dream AND Do is the melody line for the Builder’s Journey, but diving into Productive Action before getting clarity on the Dream State is choosing VISIBILITY over VISION.
Functioning for the sake of functioning is an addiction. It’s a disorder that insists on jumping to the “how” before getting clarity on the “WHY.”
Most teams don’t practice because deliberate practice involves slowing down. Slowing down involves “ideaing”. Slowing down is not “idling”. Ideaing will lead to going faster later.
Trust the process. Train your CORE to slow down. Discipline yourself to “ideaing” with fellow builders.
Together we improve.
