Adrian, Grant and the roots of genius…

Adrian is getting more confident and her results are better. Nice, but is it sustainable I thought to myself as practice 62 got underway. I asked her some curious questions to get the root.

She kept answering me with good, direct answers. The root to her getting better is she looked at her queue and said to herself, “it’s for shit.” And, she did something about it. She didn’t make excuses. She owned her shit. She went around and asked some higher performers, curious questions about their performance. She kept asking. She implemented what fit her and rejected what didn’t. She took some risks, I’m certain along the way. The key was her curiosity and her decision to do something with what she learned. The same is true for you.

You are mostly for shit about asking curious questions and even more for shit about challenging yourself to get better. Grant is pretty much a genius at both. He has gone from nowhere two years ago to a top five performer. He has done this by “coming in stupid” everyday. He assumes nothing. He asks tons of curious questions and pushes himself to get better. He is smart about who he asks. He asks the other top performers and he asks his leader. He goes where few venture – into the bosses office kinda unprepared. He gets away with it because he implements what he learns.

Build this skill. Remember, according to DaVinci this is the number one essential for becoming a genius. Genius is built not by giving others your answers. Genius is built by an insatiable curiosity. There is no cure for curiosity. However, curiosity is an absolute cure for your boredom. Genius is built by a few folks who get to the root and help others get to their own. Adrian and Grant are becoming one. Yo, what about you?

Be one.
