In 1822, the earliest year USDA has record, the average American consumed 6.3 lbs. of sugar a year. We were riding the horse, and all taking a hike.
Fast forward to 1912 and our sweet tooths were kicking it in gear. We were leaving the horse and buggy for the automobile, thinking Titantic and beginning to spread out like big Gigantic. Our sugar intake was up ten fold to just over 60 lbs a year for your average American. The good life was literally spreading…
Flying into modern America kinda takes your breath away. We can fly, drive, bike, walk, yoga, cross-fit, swim, run, tread, hike, go urban active or just about any other type of movement known to man. Mostly, however, we simply sit and surf – the net that is. All while consuming one sweet thing after another. Our bread is sweetened and our tea is too. Our cracker is sweetened, our cereal too. Our processed foods are sugar laden, our dressings are too. The numbers don’t lie. Today, the average American consumes a staggering 152.4 lbs. of sugar per year. This does NOT include the natural sugar we consume in fruits and juices. In other words, we are consuming 152.4 lbs. of added sugar this year – per capita!
Want to live a healthier, physical life? Imagine yourself sucking on a 152.4 lb. sucker of sugar as big as you and decide to suck a little less. We have become a nation of sugar addicts and nobody wants to talk about it. Sugar is NOT sweet.
Walk. Talk. And cut out some of your sugar intake. Make that your discipline and our country just got something far better than obamacare. We just got healthier…
