T’s learning…

Taylor invested the past month working at a YL camp in Saranac, NY. He wasn’t paid. He slept in a bunk house with 20 guys in a room only slightly largely than his bedroom. He went to bed late and got up early. His job required him to do a little bit of everything but mostly he was a trash man and supply man. 500 teenage campers a week generate a lot of trash and go through a lot of food. Tay took it off the truck on one end and carried it to its disposal on the other. His one day off each week he spent sleeping.

We picked him up this past friday and he looked like he had been through the mill, so to speak. He was tired, had a cold, and running a low grade fever to boot. His last job had been wheel barreling a bunch of trash up the hill one last time. He smiled at us through tired eyes that somehow still had life and even a sparkle as we loaded his bags in the truck and prepared for the hike back home.

Before nodding off for some much needed sleep, Miss and I grilled him with questions. I had imagined he would learn a lot doing this kinda work. I had no idea. I asked him what was his biggest learning from his month working. He took a minute and thought about his response. Typical Taylor. He then proceeded to tell me he had learned a little bit more about Heaven. Working alongside so many people that were there to love Jesus by serving people had given him a glimpse of what it must be like in Heaven he continued. He polished it off by telling Miss and I that working this camp was like experiencing a “little slice of Heaven.”

Taylor learned a lot. Taylor will never be the same. God, help me learn that it is more blessed to give than to receive. God, help me.

And, again God, thank’s for giving us T…
