Leaders, believers, connectors, high performers, and getting HIT…

Leaders are believers. Leaders are connectors too. You know this. You know, if you’ve been reading these rants for very long, that BTL believes this to be a deep, foundational truth of leading anything.

Leaders challenge from the deep reservoir of their belief. Leaders challenge those they’ve given the gift of their belief harder and more consistently than those they doubt. And, leaders challenge their high performers harder and more frequently than any other.

High performers respond accordingly. Instead of defending, denying, or destroying the challenger, high performers respond with “tell me more,” “tell me why this will make me better,” and an invitation to hit them harder.

So, you can easily determine if you are a high performer. Here’s a very simple test you can take. Ask yourself the following questions.

When was the last time your leader hit you? How did you respond? When was the last time your bride hit you? How did you respond? When was the last time your brother hit you? How did you respond? When was the last time your truth teller hit you? How did you respond? When was the last time you invited others to hit you? When was the last time you demanded it? When was the last time you made others mad enough, on purpose, to take a swing your way? Slow down and reflect…

High performers get hit. And, high performers go out of their way to make others want to hit them. High performers seek this kinda feedback early and often. High performers have made this a discipline because they believe that they too have blind spots.

Do you?

Tell me more, my friend. Tell me more…
