You cannot build sustained excellence easily. The best of the best began just like you and me. They looked in the mirror long ago and did NOT like what reflected back toward them. They looked out the window, not to cast blame but instead to dream big. And, armed with conviction that can only come from within, they stepped out and got busy.
Sustained excellence requires a strong CORE, a clearly defined OPUS, and 20,000 hours of PA (productive action). Sustained excellence is a non-linear journey filled with adversity, distraction, and conflict within and with others. So, once the best of the best has built within, gained clarity where they’re going, and committed to the process, they are, literally, just getting started. Lots of folks, remember, start diets at the beginning of each year. Few, however, among us are living a healthy/physical life over the long haul.
The best of the best understand the gig. The journey will have to be taken alone. Others can help. Others will help. Others will make a real difference. However, others cannot guide you to your promised land of mastery. You are going to have to grab the reins and get after it on your own. The principles that ensure you don’t quit are really easy to understand and really hard to ingrain. Here they are. Here’s the how, once you’ve got your clarity of the why and the where…
First, the best of the best, simply model the way. They get to the front and figure it out in the field. Secondly, they embrace pain and suffering. The best understand that there is no way to get from here to there within bunches of pain. So, they jump into the acute stuff on purpose. They push themselves into it before something turns chronic. And, lastly, the best of the best embody truth in LOVE. They seek honest assessment of themselves and look in the mirror as if by second nature. They have lost the ability to bullshit. We believe them when they speak. They discern truth in and around them and are set free as a result. They trust and are worth trusting.
Want to master your work and work toward a life of mastery? Start within, first. Don’t get busy with perfecting the how until you’ve found a why worth giving your all toward.
Our purpose at BTL, remember, is simply said in two sentences. “We Awaken, Challenge, and together we Transform a few individuals, teams, and leaders into ONE. ONE, distinct and deeply connected, that is BTL.” This is why we’re here. How we accomplish this is what the 12 8 4 framework is all about.
And, thanks for asking…
