Slow down and reflect…

I believe we are all called to lead. At a minimum we are all on the hook to lead ourselves. Our creator has created us in His image and given us ALL great freedom and married it with real responsibility. We are free to believe. We are free to think. We are free to act. We are free.

And, we are responsible for our choices. We are troubled when something deep within reminds us of how we ought act as compared to how we in fact do. Overtime, the best among us struggle more and more with moral dilemma’s – not less. One of the ways to know you’ve reached bottom is when you suffer “no regret.” These are a few of my beliefs. My aim is to align my behaviors with these, and other, beliefs. I miss the mark. I am energized to keep working on my aim.

C.S. Lewis is my favorite author by a mile. I’m aiming to read everything he wrote six times before I’m gone. He’s the guy that said you had to read good, rich books six times to get the essence. God, help me. Here is some of his thinking from his book titled, The Problem of Pain.

“We are never safe, but we have plenty of fun, and some ecstasy. It is not hard to see why. The security we crave would teach us to rest our hearts in this world and oppose an obstacle to our return to God: a few moments of happy love, a landscape, a symphony, a merry meeting with our friends, a bathe or a football match, have no such tendency. Our Father refreshes us on the journey with some pleasant inns, but will not encourage us to mistake them for home.”

Leaders are believers. Do you know what you believe about the big questions in life? Have you authored your own or do you simply parrot anothers? Slow down and reflect, my friend. Slow down…
