Better – not bitter…

During my one on one practices I take notes like a banchee. I find this an effective tool. Below you’ll find notes from a recent client practice. Read them, if you want, and see what you learn…

We started with you wanting to talk about my coaching of you. You told me that it doesn’t work with you when I make you angry. You don’t learn, you said. You learn when you are taught something. You reminded me of the word, STOP and how that seared you. Got it. I explained that I’m not trying to anger you, I’m trying to teach you how to STAND for being and doing good, kinda like Abagail tried to teach John Adams, back in the day. When I see you failing to finish the details of a 90 day plan, I’m gonna push you to do it right.

All humans deserve to be dignified, especially those we’re about to dismiss.

I am attempting to build you strong so you will not suffer a failure of nerve. You will remain calm in the storm and be even more decisive. You may not sound or look good but you will be good and attempt to do good. We have failed to build this quality into our modern leaders and it has produced a deficit of leadership. My aim is to build leaders with nerve. My aim is to build leaders who STAND. My aim is to awaken, challenge, and together transform you into a leader who is calm under fire, equipped with a strong, decisive CORE and an OPUS worth fighting for.

PA for me:

Sense when I’m a trigger for you and make sure I turn our work into a building experience, not a “breaking” one.

PA:

STOP, STAND, and calm with your triggers. Other people cannot “make you mad.” Other people can trigger your emotion and you choose your response. The BTL leader resists impulse, calms himself, and thoughtfully responds. Remember, this requires nerve. Nerve is what we’ve been building.

Finish the details with excellence. Dignify all teammates with the truth. Care enough to celebrate more small wins. Care enough to challenge from belief the moment you sense better is possible. Do NOT wait. This challenge comes out like you’re bitter. Aim your challenge at better – not bitter.

Be good and do good. Thank you Abagail.

Good practice today, my friend. You are getting better…
