Enjoy the journey…

Today, during practice 82 and Monday during practice 3, my clients and their teams were given the chance to practice becoming geniuses. Yes, I think quite highly of our practices. In fact, I think BTL practice is the berries. Moving along.

I gave both teams equal chance to grab the reins. I primed the fauxteen, today, to ask any “why” question they wanted. The only prerequisite was their “why” question must be directed toward their work system. Who wouldn’t savor the chance to begin their day gaining clarity around their why? Talk about a great gift.

Here’s what I learned. Humans are mostly uncomfortable asking why questions to themselves. We tend to wonder why things “around here” seem to run kinda backwards. We tend to wonder why others, out there, don’t seem to get it. We tend to question why our leaders aren’t clearer about where we’re going. We tend to question why we’re trying to unite into ONE team. Funny, huh…

Geniuses ask the best why questions. Geniuses pick the right targets too. They begin looking within, first. They ask the toughest questions to themselves. You see, Geniuses understand excellence begins individually before spreading organizationally. Every work system, remember, is a collection of individual systems, first.

In other words, you are a system working within another.

And, a few individuals is all it takes to change any system. A few who’ve directed their curiosity inward and began to question why they’re doing whatever they are doing. A few who question what “they get” and what they might be missing too. A few who question why they’re in such a hurry to get where they’re headed. A few who slow down, question themselves, gain crystal clarity of their “why” and, without much fanfare, simply get after it. These few geniuses change their world. Once clear with why, the how is fairly straight up. Here’s mine for what it’s worth…

Model the way (few will follow).
Embrace pain and suffering (make it acute pain too).
Embody truth in LOVE (practice hearing more than speaking).

ONE, distinct, deeply connected, and BTL. Enjoy the journey…
