G.K. Chesterton once said the measure of a leader was in his/her ability to NOT make those around them feel small. I suck at this and nobody has to tell me. I see it in people’s eyes. My aim is to make my clients do what they can and because of this aim, I am oftentimes very, very tough on them. God, help me deliver tough truth from a tender heart. God, help me.
And, my brothers and sisters, remember this. Lead anything, lead anyone and you will experience opposition. Leaders lead amidst a sea of opposition. The higher your perch the weightier your opposition. Expect this. Anticipate this. Embrace this. Leaders lead, anyway.
Your challenge is to look in the mirror and honestly see your faults, your weaknesses, your integrity gaps, and your mess however big or small and face it. This is my challenge too. Do not accept your shortcomings. Accept your opposition; not yourselves – change what you want to change in you. God, help me change me and accept opposition along the way. God, help me be toughest on me. God, help me remain tough on me and tough and tender on those whom I’m privileged to lead. God, help me…
