Calm and consistent are good.
Calm is good. We want our leaders calm. We believe a calm leader makes the most rational decisions. We deeply value a leader’s decision making ability. Consistent is good. We want our leaders to be predictable. Calm and consistent are good – just not quite good enough.
Caring is FM, baby. We only run through walls for leaders with whom we connect. The number one emotion we connect with is the emotion of caring. We want to know our leader cares. We want to know our leader cares for us, for what’s right, for where we’re going, and for all kinda other people, places, and things. Caring is FM, baby because most leaders fail here. Few communicate caring. Why? Good question. Here’s why.
Leaders have been brainwashed into believing that caring is a sign of weakness; not strength. Some leaders care about power and position more than people. Some leaders care about how they appear instead of their associates. Some leaders are simply afraid of showing emotions because, at the root, they’re afraid of losing control – letting people in and getting hurt, or putting themselves out there and getting hurt, or getting angry and really losing control. Most men land here. Most men fear their anger and let this fear, in fact, control them.
BTL leaders live a bit more dangerously. Calm, consistent, and caring comes from their CORE. They’ve built it within and learned to trust and regulate what comes out. These leaders get our whole heart because they give theirs.
Are you calm, consistent, and caring? Don’t tell me. Ask your team. My suggestion is you start at home too…
