The story of Young Life…

Today, as Miss and I sat with a dozen other “adult guests” in the back of Young Life’s Frontier Ranch club room, 400 high school kids came scrambling into the room as if Twenty One Pilots was playing. Hearing 400 young people sing at the top of their lungs is kinda FM, baby. They sang a handful of songs and ended with the tune titled appropriately, The Story of My Life. As I read the lyrics on the screen and listened to teen after teen shout it out, my mind settled on the melody line. One Direction’s song is really YL’s song in a funny kinda way. Substitute a word and the lyrics mean so much more.

You see, the story of YL, is the story of the human condition. As 400 teens tuned into the YL speaker this morning and heard the story of their young life, they heard their symptoms are not the real problem. They heard they’re NOT alone. They heard a story they could relate to. The story of YL, and what makes them so relevant and so real, is the fact that when I slow down and really think about it, it’s the story of my life too.

Thanks Jim Rayburn for having a big dream for reaching high school kids where they are with a story they can relate to too. I guess One Direction owes you a royalty of sorts. Funny, huh…
