Emotions confused…

My intern and I arrived a few minutes early for this afternoons practices at one of my clients. I’ve got a couple minutes to relax before we get after it with these strong men. My intern, Taylor, just told me how excited he is to get to IWU and get on the pitch with his new teammates. He’s running and lifting and feels he’s ready for his new challenge. He’s just ready to go and get started, he said. I understand his excitement and am anxious to see how he does too. I’m happy to hear the excitement in his voice…

He must have noticed the look on my face, however, ’cause right after he shared his excitement he made sure and added he wasn’t excited about leaving his family. My face, just like yours, doesn’t lie – at least for a micro-second. Tay picked up on my apparent slip of the lip and slight turn down of the eye. Yes, I’m happy for him and glad he’s looking forward to the challenge of college and the challenge of collegiate soccer. And, yes, I’m super, super sad to see him go.

I kinda try to hide these feelings and then somehow my face leaks out the truth. I’m glad my client arrived as my mind will now engage with him and leave my confused emotions behind…
