Your voice has a built in expiration date. At some point we all lose the ability to speak. And, whomever your audience may be, you’ve only got so long they’re gonna be willing to listen. As a leader your influence, if you will, has a built in expiration date. Some of your team is gonna tune you out from day one. Some listen intently until your first bark. Some wait till the first bite. Some stick with you through bark, bite, and give you their attention through one adversity after another. Some stick with you through thick & thin. At BTL, we believe, you are blessed if you have a few stuck to you.
Your voice has a built in expiration date. Get comfortable that most of those giving you their attention at the moment won’t stick around for long. Lead, anyway. Love, anyway. And, remember this fun fact. God designed us with a sense of humor. You see, when we start to lose our senses, literally, the last sense to go is our sense of hearing. We may lose our voice, our ability to touch, our sight, and our ability to smell. Somehow, for most of us, the last sense we lose is our ability to listen. God gave us two ears and in His wisdom decided they would be the last light he’d turn out.
Your voice has a built in expiration date with those you lead and love. Use your ears whenever they grow tired of your words. Listen. Tune in like an animal being stalked. Who knows, they may even return to sender. Funny, huh…
