Cheat in all directions…

Today was another great day living my labor of love. Six bells and I was turning down Sherborne on my way to practice with young kenny. Heading home a bit before 8 bells I was greeted by the littlest fricker who was early for practice two of the day. A little after 8 we turned up Sherborne, but this time we were rolling on two wheels. The air was crisp and just barely past 50 degrees as we pedaled in the shade while in search of some sun. We rode like we didn’t have an agenda and kept it conversational for 3 hours and some change. We rode Larry’s last ride route backwards. Pure pleasure.

A quick shower and then Miss and I turned down Sherborne and made our way to pick up ole Nickies, her 95 year young dad. He slowly shuffled out to our car and away we went. We took him out to Muirfield for a little surprise lunch overlooking the 18th hole. As Nickies watched the golfers coming up and the Ryder Cup going on, he mentioned how much he wished he could still play…

As Miss and Nickies finished up I grabbed a cart, my sticks, and picked them both up for a trip to the practice green. Nickies hit ball after ball and regained his touch. I watched him grip the club just like he used to and kinda kicked myself for not thinking of this sooner. He still can hit a chip. And, he was loving it. Next we went to the putting green and within minutes he was rolling them like a professional. Finally, plenty tired and very happy, he and Miss sat in the clubhouse and did a little shopping while I grabbed us all a little milkshake to share. FM, baby. Around 3bells and some change we took Nickies home with some new memories none of us will soon forget.

Today, was a labor of love. Today, as I sit in my office awaiting some Eggplant delicisiousness with my Miss, I’m super satisfied with how I invested my day. I cheated toward home without a second thought. I cheated in the direction of my big dream. You see, my OPUS is not some assignment I gave myself so I could check it off some kinda list. My OPUS is my roadmap for life. My OPUS guides me.

Today, like everyday, was invested in my labor of love. How ’bout you, my friend? Was today invested in your labor of love or was it just work? Do you only cheat toward what you can measure? Do you cheat consistently in all directions or only toward the dollars? Do you TGIM? (Thank God It’s MONDAY) Tell me more. Tell me more…
