Liz, Andrew, Goalie, tough Tommy, and tough on you…

Today, during practice 105 with a team of softies learning to be a bit less soft, we caught a faint hint of the locker room. Goalie, Liz, Andrew, and tough Tommy, are beginning to look in the mirror, face their fears, and get tougher on themselves. The real, raw, relational locker room kinda sanctuary is starting to waft it’s way into the room. It smells good. Truth is like that – kinda crisp and clean, even when it stings.

We read page 253 in the playbook and then I told the story of my toughest builder, Larry. He had the guts to tell me the truth. I remember the day he told me I didn’t know how to read a book. He pissed me off. I asked him an incredulous question all while attempting to sound curious. I went all triple d on him. He stood his ground and didn’t waver. He explained himself and gave me a lawyers argument. And, of course, he gave me a practical solution. He told me to read a book titled appropriatly, How To Read A Book,by Mortimer Adler. He was right. I know how to read a book, now.

Thank you, Larry for being tough on me. Good. You see, the locker room kinda culture arrives when tough teammates tell each other the truth because they care enough to make the other better. As we study these kinda cultures they evolve from the few kicking their own, FIRST. Be one. Thanks, Tommy for stepping up today. I have no doubt you’re gonna finish tasks on time, my friend. Good.

Who is tough on you, my friend? Start, remember, by being tough on you. Tough on you. Good.

Actually, real good…
