Rinse and repeat…

BTL is a language and like so many dialects you can’t communicate effectively without understanding all the nuances. Few master any language. Very few master the art of listening and tuning in like an animal being stalked. Few. Yesterday, during practice 138, a team of cagy veterans proved this point. They’ve been working on mastering 7 good minutes without understanding why the playbook and I keep reminding them to “rinse and repeat” until it’s squeaky clean. Without understanding deep why’s behind your behaviors, you’re kinda stuck in some perpetual motion without meaning. This kinda practice does not result in mastery. Yesterday, 16 souls proved this point. Here’s, in essence, the BTL rinse and repeat process. Master this, my friend. Master this and you’ve got a chance at connecting with those you call your company.

Yes, I’m saying there’s a chance…

One speaks. One listens.(The listener cannot comment) Yup, it’s that hard to hear.

Once the speaker has completed his ccd exchange of information,
the listener, if they think they’ve got it, is to play back what they heard.

If the listener isn’t sure they heard them correctly or if they think the sender missed something, they are to ask curious questions until they are crystal clear they’ve heard what the sender wanted them to hear. (Nobody hears everything btw)

Next the listener plays it back to the original sender. “Here’s what I heard.” (This is where it gets kinda funny)

Now the original sender is going to confirm the listener got it, if in fact they really got it. (Not a chance)

IF not, the original sender is going to “rinse” what they originally sent a little more ccd. (less is more when you want people to remember what you said)

The receiver will rinse and repeat as above until we’re squeaky clean. Got it? Good.

Master this slow process of connecting and you’ll be amazed how many misunderstandings are avoided. You do want to be understood, don’t you? Master the art of understanding and you will. Funny, huh….
