Fall back, kairos is coming…

This morning I’m taking another listen to U2’s latest album and reflecting back on yesterday and our time with Tay. I love getting lost in lyrics as the musician moves my mind from the moment. You see, music tends to move me backward. It is good for the mind and even better for the soul to cherish time. Kairos moments, you see, are created when you simply cherish some chronos.

Kairos and chronos both translate to the English word time. Your iphone is a chronometer – it tells time. You and your loved ones are capable of making moments count – kairos. Big diff.

Yesterday, handing Taylor some hand warmers, toe warmers, some hugs from my heart, a kiss on his head, and only a few words from my mouth, created some kairos. The sun shone brightly as he opened his dorm door to receive us. His brown eyes almost looked green as the light kinda radiated across his beautiful face. He smiled and said little. “Oh, Boomers” as he held his Mom close for seconds that seemed longer. “Chetters, Chetters” was ALL I heard. I was seared. He spoke other words but these few are all my mind retained. Within seconds this moment was over, never capable of returning. And yet here I am, the morning after, still glowing, still savoring, still taking in this kairos moment in my mind. Good.

Time, remember, doesn’t ever really “fall back,” does it. Today, let this thought guide you to savor a few seemingly mundane moments with those you love. Kairos moments don’t have to happen on holiday, birthday, or big event kinda days. Kairos moments can sear you whenever you soak, savor, and use all your senses toward something or someone you love. FM, baby.

Last night Tay’s team played great soccer, as did he. They’re in the conference tournament now and are 16-1 on the year. Miss and I aren’t missing a minute. And, I’m finding joy allowing my mind to fall back. I’m filling my soul, you see, with some kinda kairos. Today, make a few mundane moments count. Take your eyes off your chronometer and notice God’s beauty, notice a nuance of your beauty, soak in someone you tend to speed by, and engage all your God given sense. Fall back, friend, kairos is coming.
