Yesterday, during practice 159, we began with the clip out of the Matrix. I wanted the team to see what it looks like to absorb. High performers invite the punch, let it in, and invite some more. You see, high performers have some crazy almost cocky kinda combination of strength and humility. They invite others to bring the fight to them. And they absorb. Good.
Remember, masters kick their own first. The next post from me will be the new “F” word – fight. The world of work is filled with fear and only the bullies are left in the ring. This is NOT the kinda fighting we recommend. At BTL, we teach our teams to fight to improve performance, not to prove a point. Big diff.
Yesterday, the teams were practicing “patty cake” instead of inviting the punch. High performers know asking to be hit and then asking to be hit again is gonna hurt. They ask you to hit them, anyway. High performers learn to absorb the punch and keep absorbing. Eventually, they return the favor because they want another to experience the gift they’ve been given. The best piercers have been hit with truth, been hurt, gotten up, and gotten better as a result. Just like Neo, if you want to get better, you’re gonna have to stop running out of fear and learn how to absorb some tough truth. Become one of the few. Absorb. And, love your team enough to “hit” them with the truth in love. Good.
I asked the team to stop playing patty cake and get in the ring, so to speak. The team got after it a bit better during the second half of practice. Good. I challenged the team to author an opus worth fighting for. I hit Legalease with the truth in love – her opus is faux shit. The way you know you have an opus that is your labor of love is when you fight to live it all day long. The world isn’t simply gonna lay down for you once you’ve decided you have this really nice sounding opus you’ve written three or faux times. You are gonna have to struggle. You’re gonna have to work real hard. You’re gonna have to fight for it. Good.
The four d’s are a favorite tool to turn faux opus into yo-opus. D4. Delete, delegate, delay, and do. When you find your day invested in activities that don’t align with your opus you have 4 choices that make sense. You can stop doing it. You can delegate to someone who loves said activity. You can push it off and delay its completion. Or you can choose to knock it out and convince your cranium that finishing it is enabling your opus. Good. Remember these and apply them.
PA:
Author an opus worth fighting for.
Good.
