The BTL process of becoming the original you already are, sounds easy. It is NOT. Building your CORE, authentically authoring your OPUS, and popping ’em both out with discipline is anything but easy. Today, I had the great privilege of giving my client of eighteen short months his first bit of good news. I told him he just had a BTL moment. He told me some ccd magic reflecting his acknowledgement of the same moment.
“The light came on,” he said with a Duchenne smile you see and believe. Very cool.
His magic moment arrived when he faced his loss aversion tendency and chose to lose. Here’s what I mean. He had been rinsing and rinsing his opus for month after month. Clarity wasn’t coming and he and I both knew it. He kept going back to the drawing board, so to speak, but refused to give up on what he had written – until last week. Last week, he looked at his writing and concluded it was for shit. So, he started over. He threw out all his effort to date and looked at an empty canvas. He felt bad and good, he told me. He felt bad that he had wasted all this time and energy but it felt good to start from scratch. He committed to writing every day, told me none of it, and just got busy filling up his canvas. He started over.
He realized a loss by doing so. Good.
Today, as we rinsed his newfound clarity, the energy and excitement was better than guzzling five hour energy six packs simulataneously. He was lit. His “O”, well, sounded like his. His “P” the same. We laughed and learned the power of putting your words on paper is only powerful when the words are your own. So simple and so hard.
Today, a client of mine, shared the process of his light coming on and it was good. He is on his builder’s journey and has picked up the pace. I love seeing this. It gives me energy and makes me smile. Once the light comes on, experience has taught me, few decide to turn it off or turn it down. Most, once lit, become a soul on fire. This is the purpose of BTL and the aim of practice because souls on fire change the world, at least the world where they work and live. Building your CORE, authoring your OPUS, and owning your productive action to bring it to life, is our framework for you. We provide the framework, healthy challenges, corrective feedback, encouragement, and even the occassional prod. Only you, however, can make the light come on.
