This morning after getting my butt kicked in the 3PP, I read this email from one of my clients regarding our practice yesterday. I love his language. He has become ccd and his team is becoming ccd back at him. Yesterday we had a productive fight over a new hire. I thought Y.O.U. might benefit from seeing how a high performance team talks. Good.
“I’m just getting caught up on the BTL blogs and this blog partly speaks to what I was challenging the group on regarding all our new recruits. We want people that are exceptional, energetic, independent and willing to challenge. Chet was pushing him on “too nice”, I think this is another way of saying what I was sensing. I’m not saying he’s not the right one, but simply challenging, questioning to make sure you believe. And,(“don’t miss this” “this is huge(ish)”)
I completely get I don’t know shit!!
I don’t know shit about what you really need, who is really best for the position, who will work best next to you, who’s going to help you the most…
I don’t have to. I trust you.
My job is to make you a better leader, my job is to challenge, to poke, to make sure you have shoot in your eyes, to make sure you have thought it through like a lawyer, to sometimes be a dick, BUT with the aim to make us collectively better and then to go back to my office and make something happen.
The aim is big, not necessary in size, but in results. We want to be doing more big shit, growing toward the big dream and doing it in incredible ways. We need the collective wisdom to make that happen.
Good??… Tell me more”
What kinda fights are Y.O.U. having with your teams? I hope you are learning how to fight to improve performance…
