Be who you are…

The Wizard of Oz was one impressive dude. Behind the curtain he controlled an entire Kingdom. His power was unquestioned until a tiny dog, Toto, smelled something that didn’t pass the sniff test. He went in for a closer look and exposed a mere man in the supposed seat of a wizard. The Wizard has an identity crisis of epic proportion and loses power and control in an instant. Yikes.

Notice, leader, what happens next. Freed from his need to hide behind his mask of choice, the great Oz comes clean. He’s human and in some kinda weird way now that his identity is out in the open, he’s freed to do what he’s always needed. He uses his great powers in the simplest, sincerest of fashion. He helps his team discover their real identity too. He gives the Lion a medal for his courage, the Scarecrow a diploma, and the Tin Man gets a new ticker of sorts. The great Oz, forced from his perch, connects with his team and his face says it all – he likes it.

Hey leader, you getting this? Your team doesn’t need you to act like some kinda Wizard and you know it drains you trying to be worthy of such a claim. Come clean. Connect. Be who you are and help your team be likewise.

Be who you are. Good. I feel freer already. How ’bout Y.O.U.?
