Simon bar Kokhba…

Simon bar Kokhba is one of hundreds or more in history who have claimed to be a Jewish Messiah. How many of you have ever heard of him? Can anybody recall a word of his recorded from the first century? Can anybody recall the name of any other Messiah? I, for one, cannot.

The reason we Christians celebrate Easter today is because we believe Jesus rose from the dead. If He did not, we are foolish in our faith. One must humbly ask, however, why is it we still study Jesus teachings when He never took the time to record a word? Why is it we cannot recall the name or words of any other who claimed likewise? Why is it? Why isn’t the name Jesus Christ of Nazareth buried in the dusty archives of history alongside Simon bar Kokhba and countless others? Why?

God, help me absorb these words and live accordingly. God, help me focus my limited attention on changing my divided soul; others, not so much. God, help me let your Grace in and pass a mustard seeds pittance along. God, help me.

Thanks, Rich Nathan, for the reminder. And, Happy Easter everyone. Happy Easter…
