French fly’s…

8.8.8 was the date the world recognized the Wright’s flight. It was headline news that day nearly everywhere. Wilbur was a French flyer that day in Le Man, France far removed from Kitty Hawk winds and dunes. The headlines on 8.9.8 are kinda hysterical.

“Mr. Wilbur Wright Makes His First Flight,” Paris Herald reported. “Marvelous Performance, European Skepticism Dissipated,” London Daily Mail. “Wright by Flight Proves His Might,” Chicago Tribune. “Wright’s Aeroplane Ascends Like A Bird,” Dayton Journal. The world celebrated that man had finally conquered flight. Here’s the truth. They had been flying since 1901 back at Kitty Hawk. Nobody noticed.

Whatever aim you’re attempting, don’t be discouraged when your triumphs mostly go unapplauded, unnoticed, and underappreciated. Fly because you love taking flight. Funny, huh.
