Tough truth…

Today, during practice with an old and wise leader of many, we covered the courage essential. We’ve covered this one years ago. We went back to go forward. As my friend wrote about his fears I watched and thought about the blessings of being beside one when they get better. And there you have the melody line of our practice. You see, my clients big fears were rooted in his perceived reaction to telling his team some hard truths. He’s afraid of losing a friend because his teammates are also his friends. Here’s the truth, friend. If telling your friend a tough truth to make him/her better causes you to lose your relationship, here’s a tougher truth; they never were, a friend that is.

Lead anything or anyone and you better be prepared to lose to go forward. All leaders gotta make their peace. Lead anything and you’re gonna be lonely at the top. Good. Lead, anyway. Today, during a tough practice with an old friend, we both got better. The truth, you see, set us free…
