Powerless authority…

Recently, I received a factually focused note from a front line leader in one of the systems where BTL practices. I had called her out, you see, in front of her teammates. Her justice thread had been tweaked. She and I were sideways. Instead of going turtle or going balistic, she remained calm under fire. She stood. And, without letting too much time transpire but just enough to restore her system to neutral, she wrote me her thinking. She focused on the facts, not her feelings.

This morning, on my way to another practice, I called her to tell her she is growing as a leader. I reminded her she’s got to learn to fight for performance and in so doing, deal with lots of misunderstanding along the way. She ended the short convo with me by speaking my own language back to me. “We’re good, right,” she concluded. Yes. Yes, we are.

Today, get ready to fight for what you believe in, what’s right, what is best for you and your system, and don’t be afraid to challenge authority. Even outside, powerless authority like me. Funny, huh…
