The old Quaker, Taylor, brought the order to factory chaos. You see, young Frederick Winslow Taylor was the “best practice” man before the term existed. The industrial era was well underway back in the late 1800’s when Taylor decided we had made machines optimize the production of the widget without looking at doing the same with the guy running the machine. So, Taylor pissed everybody off by studying the best way to do just about everything. He was the ultimate in structure and order and dubbed his doctrine “scientific management.” He didn’t want to hear your way of managing your piece of the pie, he told you the best way because he had measured and optimized his way their.
By 1890 Taylor was well on his way to becoming a first. You see, Frederick Winslow Taylor was the first management guru. His gig was bring the order. He brought structure and order to the once chaotic world of the factory floor and the world of work would never be the same.
Lead anything and you better bring order to the chaos. Lead anything and you better discover the critical “best practices” that everybody’s gotta frickin’ get in line around. Lead anything and you gotta optimize process and procedure until everybody’s pissed you’re nosing into their piece of the pie. Leaders gotta bring the order.
Bring the order, friend. Bring the order. Good…
