Wake up. Buck up. Keep getting up…

I recently received feedback from a few practice participants. They wanted me to know my performance was lacking. They told me my focus had narrowed to only a few people in practice. They told me I made a number of people uncomfortable when I was overly tough on one in particular. And, they told me I made the majority feel bad about themselves when they came to practice unprepared. I know this was not easy for them to tell me and I know their intentions were to make me better. I appreciate any and all feedback that is intended to make me better. I have much to learn on my way to becoming an elite builder of elite individuals, teams, and leaders. Much to learn.

Let me remind all of you following this blog who are also particpants in BTL practice what you can expect from me everytime you attend. My purpose, the defining statement of my work, is as follows:

“To Awaken, Challenge, and together Transform a few individuals, teams, and leaders into ONE. ONE, distinct, deeply connected, and BTL.”

Wake up. Buck up. Keep getting up. For most attending practice the early focus is on getting you to wake up. Most are sleepwalking through work and life. We cannot make you elite until you wake up and find an opus worth  living “eyes wide open” for. Wake up. Once awake, your builder’s job is to make you do what you can. Translation. The few who have a dream worth living for are going to be pushed to keep reaching just beyond what’s within their grasp. We’re going to push these few because we believe they want what they’ve told us they want. We’re not going to go easy. Pain will be inevitable. Misery, of course, a choice. Buck up. Finally, we’re going to provide a practice environment for you to fail. We learn the most from falling short, falling off, and falling down. That is when we’re falling and failing toward something we want to master. If you want to reach any kinda elite status you are going to embrace falling without telling yourself you are, in fact, a failure. You are going to keep getting up. And, like John Coltrane the master jazz musician, you are going to slowly find your voice and your signature sound – at least that’s our aim as your builder. Someday, we’re going to sit back, absorb your sound, and be blown away by how good it is.

Wake up. Buck up. Keep getting up.

We, the BTL builders, are not here to make you feel good. We are here to make you good. Come to practice passionately prepared and you’ll get exactly the kinda attention you deserve. Today, in practice 147 with kman’s krazies, the focus was on a few even if nobody seemed to notice. This team is getting better because more and more are coming to practice with a purpose they’re passionate about. Today, Goalie grabbed the reins. Practice 145 and 146 Dantheman did likewise. Practice 144 was all about Liz, her big gulp and her challenge to herself. And, going all the way back to 143 it was Batman who opened the proverbial “can of worms.” You know your team is good when attention is as dispersed as it is around these team practices. You see, more and more with kman’s krazies you never know who is going to step up and lead us. Who knows. Next week it might even be Frankeethecfoinghonkee who finished us off so strongly today.

Wake up. Buck up. Keep getting up. Good…
