Recently I began to work with a new client. During our first practice his repeated response to my questions was a classic. The response?
“I don’t know.”
This response was honest, authentic, and somewhat accurate. You see, this person was being asked tough questions that put them under pressure. And, when under pressure, the normal brain cannot recall what it’s stored away back in the recesses or even in the frontal lobe or working memory. Ever notice how hard it is to find your car keys when you’ve misplaced them, are in a hurry, and late for an important date? Funny, you and I oftentimes find those darn keys in our pocket, we just forgot we put them there.
My new client has grown a bit passive under relentless pressure. This client, like everyone I work with, is going to slowly learn to stand. Slowly. So, after a few more simulated pressure packed practices with me, this client will respond more accurately, less passively, and matter of factly. I’ll begin to believe. More importantly, they will. Leaders, remember, are believers. Are you?
I don’t know. Do you…

Thanks for the reminder. I needed it this morning.
