Yesterday, a client surprised me. He showed up for BTL team practice when he had told us he had another commitment that was going to take him away. I asked him what happened and his response was ccd magic. “I decided this was more important,” he matter of factly replied. Recently, another client and I disagreed on the message he’s sending to his team with his sporadic BTL team practice attendance. All leaders gotta choose how to invest their limited time and match it up with an endless array of options. All BTL clients are making a crazy commitment to their teams when compared to the norm. Few teams practice at all, remember. The vast, vast majority just show up, do their respective jobs, and do their best work somewhere else – namely where they are NOT paid.
Our aim, at BTL, is to become elite builders of elite teams. We will mostly fail at this endeavor. The fact is that only a few of our clients believe BTL team practice is a priority. We focus here. We focus on the few moving alongside and toward our aim. Humans, remember, have a hard time hearing when they are moving away. It doesn’t help when you raise your voice or chase after them with passionate pleas. Humans hear when they move toward you. Fact. You are blessed in your life if you have a few moving toward you. You are a blessing if you move toward a few.
So, today, when we hold BTL practice with The Ohio State team of grapplers, my voice and eyes will search out for the few who are moving toward Grappy and his aim. You see, there are really no BTL team practices – only your team practices. Good…
