Greatness…

I love being around individuals, teams, and leaders who chase greatness. BTL is built for this aim. We are a band of 12 Builders doing our best to model the way. I’m not sure I’ve ever been great at anything, you know. But I know I’ve been reaching most of life for a little bit more out of me. I know there is a long way to go, Lord willing.

So what is greatness?

To me it’s the pursuit of excellence – the chase for the best in you, your team, and your leadership. Mostly, however, I know what it’s not. It’s not looking forward to the end of practice. It’s not hoping nobody’s watching when you take a play off. It’s not refusing to keep reaching when you’ve climbed pretty high. It’s not settling. It’s not stopping. It’s not comfortable. It’s not easy. It’s not being satisfied meeting the standard. It’s not hoping someone else will do it. It’s not good enough to chase greatness in your craft and accept mediocrity in your community. It’s not good enough to chase greatness technically and mail it in relationally. It is not good enough to chase greatness for yourself and suck at pulling another along. It’s not good enough to hang with high flyers unless you’re also strong enough to hold the hand of the hurting. It is not good enough.

Greatness is a worthy aim and it’s never good enough. What, friend, are you chasing? Are you worth watching? Write. Feeling. Thinking. Learning. What, if anything, you gonna do?

Live hard. Love ❤️ harder…
