Back in 1464 some dudes in Florence, Italy commissioned an artist/sculptor to chisel David (Biblical dude who drops Goliath like a bad habit) out of a piece of Carrara marble. The artist was Agostino. He didn’t get very far before giving up on the project. Next they hired a dude (Antonio) in 1476 to do the deed. He quit almost immediately, citing the marble was junk. The hunk of marble abandoned.
Twenty five years later? Michelangelo chipped away at it until (in his words) there was nothing less to subtract. Today the world recognizes this work as one of the greatest of all time. It is a masterpiece.
Today, during practice 79 with a team of gifted soccer players, I reminded them they are sculpting greatness within and with their aim. Most of this work, as Steven Pressfield describes in the Foreward to BBTL?
Subtraction.
What self limiting belief are you clinging to instead of chipping away? Ain’t nobody else gonna do it. Slow down. Reflect. Write. Stop waiting. Instead, chip away at it. You, friend, are a masterpiece in the making. Good.
Live hard. Love ❤️ harder…
