AJ…

That’s baby Aedán. I cannot look at him without returning his Duchenne smile. Transformative.

Marcus was my mobility guy, until he moved back to Cali. He transformed my left hip. TRX, bands, core work, and 40 minutes/ three times a week got the ball rolling. Marcus was the final piece to the puzzle of increased mobility, or so I thought.

Before he left, he trained AJ, on the basics of his trade. AJ trains athletes – real ones. Pro’s, you know. He doesn’t have time for old dudes like me. Luckily, I have a connection. So, this past week he worked me over. Gave me his version of the Marcus work. He’s not Marcus. Doesn’t have the hours or expertise, at least not yet. He does know his stuff. He knows breathe work. I don’t breathe from the belly. He knows deep muscle release. I have serious tight muscles in glute and gut. So, this past week he did mobility work and much more. Transformative.

He’s going to teach me to breathe better and he’s going to break apart some tight muscles (this no bueno in the moment, btw). I’m training my body in new ways at age 64. Learning new ways to move better. Could not do it a lone.

Who, friend, are you transforming? Who transforms you? Where are you humbly failing forward? Learning new things sucks, sometimes for quite awhile. New disciplines, like forgiveness, sound good until you actually practice ‘em. God, help me never stop learning on this journey of becoming. God, help me remember I belong with you and you’ve given me more than a few others too. And, God, thanks again for added bonus of Aedán. Together we transform. Always together.

Live hard. Love harder…

  1. Fun fact: Duchenne smilers have a 70 per cent chance of living until age 80 compared with 50 per cent for non-smilers.
