Flow…

Mihalyi coined the phrase flow back in the 1970’s. We’ve been unpacking the elements around this state of peak performance for over 50 years. We still have much to learn. You want to get more flow in your life, friend. Flow is bliss, joy, and love. You want more of each, right. Flow is the heart of high performance. Let’s start simply. Here are the big three activities for finding flow.

Reading. Read good books on subjects that light your fire. Read beyond your reach. Do not settle for candy. Of course, read and write as you do.

Talk. Deep meaningful conversation with people you love and care about is a fire starter. Do not settle for small talk. Go deep.

Opus. Nothing lights you up like work you love. Working on your marriage, assuming it’s a labor of love, will produce deep flow. Work you love, practice you love, games you love, these will have you finding flow. Like happiness, the key is allowing yourself to stop resulting – just play the freakin’ game. Opus (Latin word for labor of love), is not about applause, appreciation, or accelerated promotion paths. Opus is the reward itself. Fall in love and forget about everything else. Be grateful for opus. Expect hard. Expect struggle. Expect fail. Let opus happen. It will, but only after the struggle. Keep working. Good.

Live hard. Love harder. Flow…
