Practice ONE.113…

Today was another solid team practice filled with reminders. These dudes want to build mental toughness. For some it’s playing like it’s an all star game, every game. For another it’s not letting the heat of the moment turn ‘em into a heat seeking missile. Mental toughness is not one size fits all. Some must work on persisting. Some resisting. Some need more fire. Some less. Here’s truth.

Mental toughness, by definition, is one’s ability to regulate the stress response. Most humans simply react. Works most of the time but certainly not all. If you want to be more even keel in the storm, friend, work on building a more resilient worldview now. The crucible is not the best time to figure it out. Most, however, do just that. Thinking they’ll simply rise to the occasion they quickly learn they’re falling to the level of their training. Build callouses, now, in your mind.

Do you know your triggers? Have you preloaded your response? Do you believe it? Are you a believer? Your mental toughness is yours to figure out. Don’t wait until you’re halfway up the mountain to build these callouses. Don’t wait. Slow down. Reflect. Build within. Good.

Live hard. Love harder…
