August 1, 2010 the 3PP opened for the first time. I had been diagnosed as “skinny fat.” Had visceral fat around my organs. Low back pain was chronic. Looked healthy but was not. My good friend, Little little agreed to push up, pull up, and plank with me. That first day we set the timer for thirty minutes with a minute of work followed by a minute of rest. About killed us.
Today we set the timer for forty minutes with 55 seconds of work and 20 seconds of rest. We’ve been at this for fourteen years now and together we’ve endured. A lone we would have given up years ago. Together, who knows how long we’re gonna keep it going. My vissy is under control. My back? Well I haven’t felt a thing for years. My core has gotten stronger even as the rest of me has not. Doing core work three days a week has been the best discipline for my body. Little little has been beside me from the start. Thank you, Littlest. You are an enduring friendship and treasure, at least to me.
And, you might notice a beat up twenty four year house in the background of these pics. It’s getting a complete overhaul after twenty four years of wind and rain have taken its toll. Littlest is the one doing the work. He’s the best builder in our fine city and he’s doing it right, the only way he knows how to do anything. He’s building the house to endure, just like our friendship.
What kind of relational home are you building, friend? Give more than you take. Surround yourself with dudes better than you. Crush your ego, not your colleagues. Do hard things together and laugh along the way. Replace the chronic pain with acute. Focus on the beauty not the beast. You’ve been reminded.
Live hard. Love harder. Little harder…
