Get better…

Drill with a “get better” mindset, not “get through it.” A stud OSU LAX leader shared this nugget with their team earlier this week. I loved it. Here’s why.

Getting better is the ultimate aim of a growth mindset. Not learning is the ultimate failure to someone mastering their mind. A fixed mindset overvalues “winning.” So, they pick easier targets. This is not how you level up…

This teams leader is all about growth. Their schedule reflects his mindset. This team is picking it up. Yes, of course, he wants to win. In fact, his job depends on it, likely, more than yours! Yet, he’s scheduled this team to play the best, not arrange a bunch of cupcakes prior to BIG schedule. This team is beginning to believe. Closing out close games comes to those who learn the hard lessons. Yes, you must practice for pressure.

So, friend, how’s your focus when facing hard things. Practice reminding yourself you are getting better when going through hard. When you allow yourself to just get through it, you’re looking at time as the enemy. It. Is. Not. In fact, it’s the most limited resource on the planet. Make the most of it by controlling what you tell yourself in hard training, moments of truth, and intense pressure.

Focused attention is how you and I make the most out of our limited moments. Embrace the hard. You get to do it, not just get through it. Master this mindset. Get better, not bitter. You’ve been reminded. Damn.

Live hard. Love ❤️ harder…
