Beatitudes…

This morning my 99 year old mom and I went to Church together, virtually. We do this every week she feels up for it. Today the teaching was on “The Beatitudes” found in Matthew 5: 1-12. The Latin word Beatitudes translates to the English words – supreme blessedness. Jesus identifies nine strengths of a maturing believer and none of them would get applause in the world. None of these feel good when experiencing them. Just the opposite, in fact.

We mostly value what the world does, not what The Word does.

This, friend, is true for me. We think of blessing as what God gives us. The truth is our good fortune and ultimate blessing is being nearer to God. Not presents but proximity. Mom and I agreed. We have work to do on our will. Resist the world. Persist in The Word. God, help me value the right stuff. God, help me. Lot’s of work to be done within me. Own it, Chet. It won’t own you. Damn.

Live hard. Love harder…
