FUD

FUD (Fear, Uncertainty, Doubt) is situation normal for most teams and organizations. Mergers? FUD. New boss? FUD. Changing structures? FUD. New fiscal year? FUD. GREAT organizations and teams demand and fight for clarity and they tackle FUD head on.

You may not have control over what you company, your boss does. And even where there’s FUD, you have options. Choose to play the political game or choose to leave. Choose to tunnel down and focus on your team, or choose to confront what’s above. There’s a time and place for everything. What must be done is facing the fears, getting clarity on them, and deciding how you want to then live, based on your core. Organizational FUD does not necessitate individual FUD. You always have a choice.

    Boom…This hit home for me.

    FUD.

My last deployment in Afghanistan I went from having every single member of my Chain of Command – supporting me, giving me resources, inspiring me and wanting me and my team to succeed – to – every officer in my Chain of Command actively blocking, cutting resources, and bad-mouthing me on both a personal and professional basis. DAMN.

    Did. Not. Matter.

It was PAIN FULL – – – but the mission remained.

“Protect your qalat (home), protect your village, protect your valley and protect your tribe.”

One of my bolted-on-beliefs is this: If you want great leadership, don’t look up – look in the mirror.

BE WHAT YOU EXPECT OTHERS TO BE.

    Simple, not easy.

I have found my new mission – Discipleship – to be much more difficult and rewarding than anything I ever experienced in the military…BUT?

I have the GREATEST Commander-IN-Chief in all of eternity now – – – God.

Makes ALL the difference in the world.

    One “L” of a difference.

    LFG.

    Keep pushing.

    Your friend, ally, and fellow-builder,

    Jim
