According to Merriam Webster’s definition, retired means to have withdrawn from one’s position or occupation: having concluded one’s working or professional career.
My sisters are retired. My best childhood friend, Big Bird, is retired. One of my best friends here in Cbus just told me he’s retiring this July. Doccuttfirstaskquestionslater is retiring soon. Many clients have retired. Many more are rapidly approaching it. Has got me thinking, you know. What about my sorriness?
I’m growing old but not tired. Fact.
My skin is going to be the first organ to go. I’m getting harder to look at. Wrinkled and worn for sure. Lots going on and lots going wrong. My mindset? Ain’t letting the old man in. Damn straight. My heart and mind still tell me full gas motherf&*(er. My desire to ride hard is not as strong. Lifting heavy things has waned. Stretching and strengthening my core? Never wanted to go harder. Why? Let me be ccd.
The Bible does not mention the word retirement. Talks a lot about burning out bright, fighting the good fight, and running the good race. So, friend, nothing wrong with retiring early or late. Just remember, life is an energy management problem and it’s yours to solve. You are meant for meaning and passionate purpose. Success to significance is real. From strength to strength is the transition of choice. Jesus went from carpenter to commissioned. He picked up his cross. Walked on. Did not go quietly. Modeled the way. Embraced pain and suffering. Embodied pure truth and love. Defeated death so you and I could fear not. Why would we choose to slowly fade away…
God, help me know when it’s time to move on. In the meantime, God, help me keep moving it in your direction. What, friend, is your aim? Let me remind you – you ain’t done yet. LFG. Full gas till we empty the damn thing. Full gas. Damn.
