Ek dropped some motherly wisdom on Mother’s Day. Aedán had been playing with his assortment of cool cars for the better part of an hour. Bedtime was rapidly approaching. The family room was a car filled mess of his making. So, as he began to get fussy and tired, she gave him some lovingly CCD (clear, concise, and direct) instructions. Here’s what she told him. This is a great one for you and your teams, leader.
“It’s alright to make a mess, just NOT leave a mess.”
So, Aedán and she began to clean it up. Extrapolate to you and your teams. How often do you let them make a mess and NOT clean it up? Do you make things right when you get it wrong?
Remember, most humans can handle adversity. As Abe Lincoln shared so long ago – If you want to test a man, give him power. Few can handle it. How ’bout you, leader, when was the last time you made a mess? Did you make somebody else clean it up? Damn.
Live hard. Love harder…
