Your CORE, by way of reminder, is comprised of six elements. We believe, at BTL, there is NO substitute for a strong CORE. None.
Worldview – Your deepest set of beliefs through which you make sense of the world. This one is numero uno. The other elements of your CORE emanate from here. Fact.
Identity – The names you call yourself.
Principles – The values that mean the most to you.
Passions – Your love to’s that give you energy.
Purposes – Your BIG why’s for work and life.
Process – Your framework for bringing the five alive and keeping ’em tight.
These are the six elements. A constant work in process.
For many of our clients, the “love to’s” don’t get the time and attention of the others. We hear lots of reasons, most often they site their proclivity to being responsible. Not enough time to pursue passions. You know, put away childish things as you mature. They subjegate passions to obligations. Feel good about it. Until they’re dry, disillusioned, and depressed with their state of affairs. Damn.
As for me, I’m bathing in my “love to’s.” Life, I believe, is an energy management problem (worldview). It’s yours and mine to solve. When we die, we’re out of energy. Too many humans look like the walking dead. Yeah they may be responsible as hell, but they don’t look like it’s doing much for them. Look tired. Don’t look like their heart is in it, ’cause it isn’t. Hearts, in fact, die without love. So, friend, when was the last time you fed your heart? Your love to’s are fuel for your heart and very soul. Feed it.
One of my love to’s is being first off on the golf course. Just me, Squirrel (long time caddy extraordinaire) and, whenever possible, my friend Lil Jeggie. We play without waiting. Nobody in front. Nobody pushing from behind. Love this.
Reminds me of childhood when The Elks golf course (Salina, Kansas) would let me and my ten year old friends go off at the crack of dawn. Dew sweepers. Watch the sun come up. See the morning dew dry as we walked the unwatered fairways. It was a goat ranch. We didn’t much care. Why? It was too much fun! When I’m “first off” it reminds me of my childhood. Makes me smile. Gives me energy.
Your life, friend, runs on energy.
Your love to’s are fuel. Yesterday, Squirrel and I were first off. It was a wildlife tour filled with deer, rabbits, squirrels, and even a Wile E. Coyote too. No birdies. Few doubles. Plenty of pars. Smiles? Yeah, baby. Lots of laughs and so much fun walking the fairways (and rough) with an old friend, playing a game we both love.
When was the last time you filled up? What are you waiting for? Remember, you cannot give what you don’t possess. Fill up, friend, so you can give instead of the ever popular – give the F up. Fill up or give up. You choose. Your choices have consequences (worldview, again). Damn.
Live hard. LOVE harder…
