At BTL we believe there is great power when one turns routines into rituals. The difference? Routines are good. Rituals? Sacred.
This past month I took one of my morning routines (reading and writing) and made a slight change. I made a decidre (Latin – to cut off). I decided to start my day reading The Bible and writing about it in Evernote. First things first, you know. I talk about this a lot. Hit me like a ton of bricks, I’ve not made this sacred. Others and other things crowd it out here and there.
I remember seeing my dad’s Bible laying open on the dining room table and thinking why does he read that book so much. I’m beginning to understand. Long way to go. Thanks, dad, for modeling the way so long ago. I’m a long way back, near the bottom of the trail, but I’m baby stepping. I’m coming. Just a long way to go…
Do not the sun go down on your wrath. Ephesians 4:26
One of my dad’s many favorites and he modeled it well. God, help me model the way, embrace pain and suffering, and embody truth in love. God, help me. What, friend, is becoming sacred to you? Are you putting first things first? Have you taken the time to reflect on your CORE and living aligned or too busy looking out the window chasing social media likes, success, or something else as Solomon said – under the sun? Slow down. Reflect. Maybe it’s time to transform some good routines into some sacred rituals. Damn.
Live hard. Love harder…
