Whenever I pause BTL team practice and ask ’em to write, I have them follow a five step process. Feel. Think. Reflect. Learn. Do. Let’s quickly unpack.
Feel For some this is natural. They feel life and are quick to feel much more than feelings. They have a feel for the game, for the room, and for what’s about to go down. Sixth sense kinda thing. For many, however, this is the hardest piece. They stopped feeling many hurt feelings ago. They’ve walled themselves off from themselves. Damn…
Think. Next we write our thoughts. Some think logically, you know. A,B,C,D,E, all the way to Z. Others (me included) go from A,B,C right to Z. We think, just not very logically.
Reflect. Next we reflect on what we felt and thought. We combine and see what we got.
Learn. What did we learn is next. We want to increase our knowledge and we want the room to transfer knowledge to each other instead of hoard it. Knowledge transfer is key. So, we share, at least those that are willing.
Do. Last thing we do is write what we’re going to do with our newly acquired knowledge. We do not get better by the first four steps. Fact. We get better by what we do with it. This is the lynchpin.
Too many stop short of doing. Get caught up in their head. Think more than they do. Most mental problems are rooted here. Overthinking leads to more FUD – fear, uncertainty, and doubt. The downward spiral you do not want. The mentally strong reverse the equation. They do more than they think. Do more. Simple, not easy.
Here’s the great news. You, friend, can do more than you think. Are you? Damn.
Live hard. Love harder…
