Next pitch

So what, next pitch. That was the mantra adopted by many of the college players I coached. The point of it was to be present. You just gave up a home run? So what, next pitch. You just booted a ball at shortstop? So what, next pitch. Stay focused on what’s happening right now, rather than what happened in the past.

When we get stuck in the past, we tend to ruminate on what can’t be changed. When we get stuck in the future, we can neurotically worry about what may or may not come. Wasted energy on both accounts. Put your energy into what matters – the next pitch.

    …love this, Rach.

…not down on self, not high on self…

…talk back to self. Pre-loaded response.

    ”So what?”

… change your question, change your life.

    …”next pitch”
