You do not make time for xyz sometime in the future. This is a lie.
Yesterday, for the umpteenth time, someone fed me bullshit they’ve been feeding themselves. I did not tolerate it. I loved them enough to offer hard truth. I asked a simple question. “How many well intentioned people wait to start xyz until abc happens?” A lot they responded with a sideways glance at their teammate seeking some kind of solace and empathy. “How many actually start xyz after abc happens, I continued.” Their response? A fair amount will when they have time, you know.
Bullshit, was my CCD response.
The truth is we do not break old habits. We build better ones. You do not wait. You do not hesitate. You do not worry. You do not wait until the time is right. You start building better now. We start building better habits way before we’re ready. Want to start a couple better disciplines? Get clearer than crystal clear around why it matters. You cannot be too clear. Write it down.
Now, pick a baby step to get your sorriness moving. Make it a done so today. Wake up tomorrow with your BIG dream crystal clear in your mind. Imagine yourself arriving at your dream state. Visualize it. Get out of your warm bed and get after it. Pick another baby step and go. This is the dream and do continuum BTL preaches day in and day out. Truth. This works for summiting the highest of mountains. Works for achieving stillness too.
You do not get what you want by dreaming about it and waiting till you have time. You Dream and do. Dream and do. Dream and do a bit more.
Want more summits? Habituate climbing. Want more stillness? Habituate sitting quietly in your room, alone. Dream and do. Simple, not easy.
“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.” Aristotle
Live hard. Love harder…
