Different practices

Last week I posted a blog about having a client at the top of her game, and about how we focused on simply surfing that wave. A few hours after that blog went live I had a practice with another client who’s also at the top of his game. Totally different practice. We focused on kicking his ass, more humility, doing harder work than ever. Never talked once about surfing the wave. Why? Different people, different strengths.

With the first client, she can be her own toughest critic. We wanted her in the moment, soaking up the highs, reminding herself what she’s capable of. For the second, I sensed a different need. He was kicking up the feet a bit more and feeling pretty high on self. So I hammered him and he loved it. I knew he would. He came up with some great productive actions and his foot is back on the pedal.

Who are you? When you’re at the top do you need to soak it up more? Or double down? Or perhaps it varies? Know yourself, then act accordingly.
